Sending so much respect and love from the North Shore of Minnesota. When I see you all out there day in and day out, in the frigid cold, standing up for your neighbors while remaining peaceful, I get choked up every time. Damn proud to be a Minnesotan right now. Know the entire world is watching in awe. You all are giving hope to the rest of us.
I personally don't have it in me to be out in the crowds. I don't do well with noise. But I guess writing here and sharing the stories is my way to contribute. Seems to be working.
Thank you Teri for continuing to share your boots on the ground stories that we donβt get to hear that helps give hope in the midst of chaos. I feel to play my part in the collective is to love and serve those around me in my communities off and online while keeping you and the people in MN and around the world in my heart and prayers. Thank you for your voice that is so much needed right now. ππΎβ€οΈ
Go hug your peeps, tighter and longer than usual...and make it a habit of hugging for 10 seconds or more. If they don't like it, just tell them that your Minnesota friend says "Minnesota goodbyes are magick and pixie dust."
Brilliant piece. That image of Mr. Reflective Vest walking the perimeter while ICE tried to intimidate captures something really importnat about community resistance. It's not always loud or visible, but its there in those quiet acts of witness. I've noticed how crisis can bring out both the worst enforcement and the best collective care at same time, almost like they feed off eachother.
This. This is exactly what I wanted to portray. The most important image, to me, of this piece is the quiet steady walk of Mr. Reflective Vest. He saved me that day. Thank you for your comment. I'm taking this with me today and forward.
Much love and gentle hugs from a former Minneapolis (Uptown) resident. So heartbroken after seeing the π§ murders but so proud of how you all came together to love and support one another. Holding Liam in my heart (and everyone else who was kidnapped).
Uptown will never be the same. Although I have hope that once we get through this and heal, it will be BETTER than ever before. thank you for your love.
Thanking for sharing this up close and personal description of the horrific events in Minnesota. Sending love and strength to you and your neighbors as you stand up to this invasion
As a sensitive person, too, and a dear friend of Fred Rogers (I wrote a book about him, but that matters little. Arenβt we ALL dear friends of his? I know he would very much like to think so.), I wanted to thank you.
Thank you for sharing this message of hope during a time that is unimaginable. And thank you for welcoming a new friend into your home, and into your life. We are nothing when we cease to be enriched by the presence of other kind souls. β€οΈ
Did you get to meet Fred Rogers in person! What a blessing to write a book about him! And yes, our new friend and neighbor is a blessing to us. I hope to host him again, and more like him in the years to come.
Thanks for asking. No, I didnβt know Fred in person but I met Joanne, whom I interviewed and who endorsed the book. Such a beautiful person. And I must admit that I feel as if I know Fred well. What most donβt realize is that he is a VERY funny man. Other people from the neighborhood who worked with him for decades became dear friends. The project was such a blessing. I still run social media pages about Fred and for David Newell/Mr. McFeely.
How are you doing today? Please let me know if there are people who need immediate financial assistance. I donβt have a ton of extra disposable income but I also know there are times when even a little means a lot. Thanks for being so special.β€οΈ
P.S. Fredβs message today is βKeep looking out for your neighborsβ. Thatβs not something YOU need to hear, however, because youβre already doing it.
A powerful vignette of how this assault on Minnesota affects even the humblest, littlest moments in its residents' lives. A woman takes her dog for a walk in a local park in the early morning hours. Dark, tinted vans idle menacingly in the parking lot. They steal her sense of peace and solitude. I still can't believe this is happening in America. Thank you from a fellow tinnitus sufferer. π
Thanks for sharing this Teri. Good to hear what's going on away from mainstream media reports. Thoughts with you and all in your area. Keep staying strong.

Thank you for this.
Started crying right away at the Mr. Roger's quote and was moved, motivated, and comforted through the rest of your writing.
So many of us feeling so much deep, piercing, pure emotion around what's happening in our country, it's hard to find words.
My thoughts, prayers, hopes, wishes with you, Minnesota, all of us β€οΈ
Thank you Katie. I feel you.

Oh! Bless your beautiful hearts. Sending love, strength and solidarity to all the those with real or virtual Hi-Vis vests - reflecting your shining light in the darkness of these times. β€οΈβπ©Ήπ€ποΈπ±

Thank you for leading those of us who have a voice of a different kind!!! There are so many ways to contribute.

For a moment, yes, they stole my peace and solitude. But not for long. The helpers reminded me that they can never touch my spirit.
Iβm with you in spirit. As a refugee from Nazi Germany I also know what it feels like to be bonded by thugs. My thoughts are with you!
Courage!
You and all Minnesotans are amazing and we love and support all of you.
You (you and every last helper) are all so beautiful and I am so incredibly thankful for your light. β€οΈ

Thank you JFT. I always love your support dear friend.
