How To Beat Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder
Making friends with the ARFID enemy might just be your path to freedom.
In full disclosure, I haven’t really beaten ARFID, but I have made friends with it.
ARFID developed so early in my youth that I don’t think I could ever make it go away completely. (I’ll never, ever like the texture or flavor or smell of mushrooms…ewww!). Â
Living with ARFID is a way of life for me. However, it doesn’t control me anymore. Rather, I look at it like a little orange warning sign that waves nicely at me to gently nudge me to be more mindful of my stress levels and self-care habits. When I realize I’m getting a bit food-avoidant and restrictive, I know that I am also getting a little too stressed out by life.
