How Mindful Eating made us go from ā€œnot normalā€ to a really great New Normal.

I’m obsessed with the sea salt dark chocolate caramels from Costco.
At least I used to be.

It was so bad that if I couldn’t find them at Costco (they often move them to different sections of the store), I would have a bit of a hissy fit. And, I’d always buy two containers in case the next time I went to Costco I might just lose the game of hide-and-seek.

But, after a month of writing about and focusing on Mindful Eating, I noticed that I’ve eaten a lot less of my favorite sugary comfort food. A LOT LESS. I actually still have two containers on reserve, and I haven’t been to Costco in over six weeks.

This is NOT NORMAL for me.
Hobbit even asked if I was okay when I turned down his offer to bring me one.

I used to eat anywhere from 3-10 of them in a day, depending on the level of stress and, dare I say it *mindlessness* I would allow into my world each day.

But this week, in hindsight, there were days I didn’t have any, and didn’t miss them, and didn’t crave them. I mean, not at all.

What’s even more *not normal* is that Hobbit who is typically a meat and starch type of eater, has been reaching for fruits and vegetables more.

Last week, after breakfast, I cut up an apple and left it on the counter for nibbling, and when I came down to the kitchen a couple hours later, it was gone. GONE! This never used to happen.

And one more *not normal* thing that has happened, we aren’t wanting to go out to eat. It used to be a special treat, or something we would do if I didn’t feel like cooking. But in the last 2-3 weeks, we haven’t even thought about it. We even opted for steaks at home instead of going out for our 7th anniversary!

You know, Hobbit and I have a joke, whenever we get out of the car to walk into a public establishment, he always asks me if we are gonna ā€œact normalā€. We joke that we are not normal individuals (we are a Hobbit and an Owl in relationship afterall), and when we enter the ā€œoutside worldā€ we need to pretend to ā€œbe normalā€ while we go about ā€œpeoplingā€.

Well now, thanks to a month of focusing on Mindful Eating, we have to figure out what the new normal is at home.

We aren’t complaining.

it’s a good new normal.

BTW - Tomorrow is the first of the month, a new mindfulness topic. Join me next month to explore LETTING GO and how to do so mindfully.
